Hello,
I have a question regarding carb calculation that I hope someone can clarify for me.
When people talk about the amount of carbs that they eat, are they referring to the total amount of carb containing food or the actual carb amount? For example, let's say that someone eats 100g of sweet potato. Assuming this contains 20g of carbs, has the person just eaten 100g of carbs or 20g of carbs?
I think it's the latter, but I would just like some clarification. I'm a T1 on a ratio of around 1unit :10g and I inject about 5-8 units of rapid insulin per day. I take this to mean that I am eating between 50-80g of carbs per day. Does that sound right?
I have seen some posts where people eat 200-300g of carbs per day and this triggered me to ask this question as I just don't know how it's possible to eat this many carbs without trying. I have been diagnosed since December '13 and I didn't eat this many carbs even before then. I just wanted to check that I am calculating correctly.
Many thanks in advance
Martin
