hi another newbie ,how do i work out my carbs im a t2 male so how many carbs do i allow myself a day please advise :?:

Hi and welcome!

I was diagnosed in January and went kind of coldturkey with carbs in the beginning. I chucked all bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, root veg and processed foods. I got my sugars down to 4-6 within days. I reckon I was on about 20-30 grams of carbs per day. It worked a treat and my levels crashed down from 15 to 4-6 within days. After that I started to add some roots like carrots and beetroot into my diet with very occasional potato or slice of bread. I think I'm probably eating about 60 g carbs a day now with low sugars but my weightloss has stalled so it is time to go low carb again!

Hi muppet65, welcome aboard.

Saz1is a great example of what can be done in next to no time if you give the starches and sugars the heave-ho. It's a very quick and very effective method if you think it would suit you. Eliminate all biscuits, bread, cereals, flour, wheat, potatoes, rice and root veg and your bg numbers should quickly fall to a normal healthy level. Then you can re-intoduce the foods you want into your diet while checking your post-prandial bg to see the effect they have on you. You'll then know whether you can eat them at all or whether they are best avoided.
If you can get down to Saz1's fantastic range of 4-6, you'll be at the level of carb intake you can safely tolerate.
Others might prefer to make slower, gradual changes until they get to their target range before levelling-off. Whichever way you choose, good luck and keep us posted.

All the best,

fergus
