Carb Cravings

I'm managing my type 2 by diet & my last blood test was great, all readings in the normal range. I have done this by following a fairly strict GI diet with low levels of brown rice, wholemeal pasta etc - however I get cravings for things like crisps etc does anyone have any tips for overcoming these as I don;t want to start taking any more medication (currently on BP meds permanently & painkillers for arthritis intermittentlu)

To many to mention.
Yep don't eat them !! I do occasionally get the carb cravings, when I do I will have a piece of cheese or a packet of Pork scratchings, I may do something around the house, basically anything that occupies your mind, walk, put on some of your favourite music, it can be like any other addiction and will pass after a short time. The more Carbs you remove from your diet the less you will crave them, I try to keep mine at around 50g a day.

Hi Goose, if I really fancy something crispy I get some parmesan sprinkle it onto a baking tray (lined with baking parchment) and put it in a 175 degree oven for about 7 or 8 minutes. The parmesan melts and crisps up - it should be golden not brown. yummy, savory and crunchy, and if they last long enough - they last seconds for me :) then you can dip them in salsa or mayo.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Try having a tiny bit.
I do this with chocolate.I have a square each evening of dark wholenut and it satisfies the cravings. I occasionally maybe once in 3 months or so, have a few twiglets to substitute for some savoury snacks and I have once or twice in the last year had a few vegetable crisps.
the secret is in the small quantity and low frequency

thanks for those suggestions - I don;t know how you manage on 50g carbs - if I ate that little I wouldn't eat anything - I'm eating around double that. I have been advised not to eat too much cheese & meat because of the risk to my borderline cholestortol level ( Ok for non diabatic too high for a diabetic)
