Hi, I was diagnosed as type 2 at the end of December. I started a very low carb diet and have lost 2 stone already , which is great. My fasting BG has gone from 19.5 to 8-9.5 but I don't seem to be getting below 6.5 even hours after food and my overnight BG is never below 7.5. I have gone for days eating zero carbs and now I have less than 30g a day, but it just isn't going any lower. What can I do?

Protein converts to glucose, same as carbs, just much more slowly and steadily. I sometimes get a second spike 3 or 4 hours after a meal that can be higher than the conventional post meal rise, if I had something like nuts at the end of the meal, that kick in later. This can be a useful tool in your arsenal for leveling BGs if you fluctuate too much or there will be a gap until you next eat, but it can cause confusion if you don't know about the phenomena.My protein levels are maybe too high, I hadn't realised that would be a problem
Thank you. I am always below 8 within 2 hours of eating. I was just worried because when I get to my next meal, my husband who isn't diabetic will be at 4.5, where as I will be between 6.5 - 7,5, and my overnights are always high. I wake up higher than when I go to bed! I looked at liver dump and that sounds about right xHi. Don't worry too much about your fasting sugars due to the overnight liver dump phenomenon. See what your levels typically are two hours after a meal and if below 8-9 mmol then you're fine. If not then do discuss meds with the GP.
Any fasting level between 5 and 7 is fine for a diabetic.I've lost a very similar amount of weight to you and found that whilst my readings have dropped (from the 8-9 range - although that set of readings is from some time back so could have been higher or lower) I haven't yet had a fasting reading below 6. Someone in another thread confirmed that her fasting reading took 6 months to finally drop. It can be a bit frustrating to read about people who get back to 5.2 within their first week of dieting but I guess we're all a bit different. The more I read from people on this forum the more there seems to be multiple factors at play. For me I'll wait until I finish my weight loss plan, get my calorie count and nutrition balanced, before evaluating my readings. But it definitely looks like you've already made massive progress and are on the right track.

Hi, keep on doing that with a few modifications as our peers suggest here. For some it might take a while to adjust than the others.From my personal experience It took me about 6 months to see the results on my HbA1c values.At first I was disappointed after so much 3 effort, And one other thing i did was to incorporate a small amount of carb like 40g rice(I do eat that with a lot of veggies and of course meatHi, I was diagnosed as type 2 at the end of December.
