Carbohydrates
Word cares about almost everyone

It may be very helpful to know

1) How many carbohydrates should be consumed by diabetics per day ?
2) Do you eat this amount at the same time is better or split into meals ?
3) Doctors recommend complicate carbohydrates are good ? This is true
4) Does a person need carbohydrates to live
Can you share your experience, please?

=> 1) How many carbohydrates should be consumed by diabetics per day ?
Ideally no more than 30g per day. But some people can get good results with up to 70g a day.

=> 2) Do you eat this amount at the same time is better or split into meals ?
As part of meals, as even green veg has a few carbs.

3) Doctors recommend complicate carbohydrates are good ? This is true
They are not as back as simple carbohydrates but is like asking if you wish to be run over by a car or a HGV...

1. No more than they can tolerate. We stick to under 30g per day, but some people can maintain low blood sugars on more.
2. Best to spread over several meals, not a massive load all in one go.
3. Complex carbohydrates are just sugars which take a little bit longer to get into the blood stream. No real benefit.
4. No.

The amount your meter tells you your body can cope with. It varies from one person to another, and which medications they take.

2) Do you eat this amount at the same time is better or split into meals ?

Personally I have no carbs at breakfast. Around 10 or less at lunch time, and the rest in the evening. I never snack. We all have different tolerance levels, and different tolerance levels for each meal.

3) Doctors recommend complicate carbohydrates are good ? This is true

All carbs turn into sugar in the system, whether complex or simple

4) Does a person need carbohydrates to live

No. Our bodies can burn fat for energy

1) How many carbohydrates should be consumed by diabetics per day ?

I can safely eat around 100g a day. Everyone is different

2) Do you eat this amount at the same time is better or split into meals ?

I spit it between meals, and some of it is drinks

3) Doctors recommend complicate carbohydrates are good ? This is true

I find I cant tolerate refined carbs, both from a blood sugar result and digestively

4) Does a person need carbohydrates to live

I need some carbohydrates to keep me pain free and my bowel issues under control. I dont think I would die without them, but I will be uncomfortable and in pain and it would limit what i can do to a great extent.

  1. How many grams of carbohydrates should be consumed by diabetics a day? Noting that it is different for T1, T2 on insulin, T2 on insulin stimulating medication, keto dieters.....athletes who are not on keto.....
  2. Do you eat this amount at the same time or is it better to split it into more than one meal?
  3. Doctors recommend complex that carbohydrates are good ? Is this true? But see (1)
  4. Does a person need carbohydrates to live? Assuming that there are alternative food sources available.

Just tidied it up a bit.

Anyway:
  1. Depends entirely on your lifestyle, medication, type and severity of diabetes. If you are trying to manage on diet alone, or diet/Metformin then 50g or below is a good target. Many can handle much more.
  2. Logically if your body has a limited ability to process carbohydrate then giving it a chance to recover between doses sounds sensible. However there is evidence that long periods of fasting within the day may help the pancreas to recover. Eat to your meter.
  3. The main benefit of complex carbohydrates is a slower absorption so if your main problem is your body under producing or poorly utilising insulin then slow release carbohydrates can help. However in most cases slow or fast it is still carbohydrate and possibly not good.
  4. Carbohydrate is not essential to life because there are alternative metabolic pathways to synthesise glucose which is essential to life (but only in small amounts for the keto adapted).

1) How many carbohydrates should be consumed by diabetics per day ?
This depends on your body, your meter and your strength of will.

2) Do you eat this amount at the same time is better or split into meals ?
The amount you could cope with over a day is much higher than you can take in one hit.

3) Doctors recommend complicate carbohydrates are good ? This is true
Yes it is true that doctors/dieticians following the NICE guidlines do recommend this.
The only "good" complex carboyhdrate is cellulose. In the EU this is classed as fibre.

4) Does a person need carbohydrates to live.
I am not aware of any "essential" carbohydrate.
