I am so sorry amsure people are fed up with me harping on, and what seems to be me asking the same questions over and over but I keep hitting stumbling blocks which gives me the need to ask.So sorry guys but I'm picking your brains again!!

If reading something and it says 1 carb...the 1 carb = 10, am I right?...so 2.2 carbs = 22 and 4 would be 40.

Not sure I follow...

If you are reading the nutritional info on some food, the carb value will be displayed in either Grams (per 100Grams of food), or (rarely) a percentage.

Either way, you don't need to multiply either of them by 10 to get a correct value.

So, if the packaging says 2.2Grams Carbs PER 100Grams - you just muliply the 2.2Grams by the total weight of the serving.

If a serving size is 300Grams, and there are 2.2Grams per 100Grams of food, you'd multiply the 2.2Grams X 3, to get the amount of carbs for the 300grams of food.

The other formula is 2.2/100x300, but the answer is the same. for 300Grams of food that has 2.2Grams per 100Grams, you're gonna eat 6.6 Grams of carbs.
 
Slightly confused here........however.....

If you read a label on a packet and it says the product contains a total of 27g carbs that usually means per 100g weight of the product unless it says otherwise.

So if you divide 27 by 100 that gives you the number of carbs per gram.
Example: 27 / 100 = 0.27 carbs per gram weight.

You can then multiply this (0.27) by the weight of a portion size, say 30g which will mean that a 30g portion will contain 8.1g carbs.

FOr something that has 2.2g per 100g, see how much the whole pack weighs.

If the pack is 300g, 100g goes into 300g THREE times.

SO multiply the number of carbs in in 100g by THREE to get the number of grams in a whole pack.

6.6g.
 
This may not be exactly what you want but I use it as a general 'rule' to follow, especially if I'm grabbing something quick of the shelf. My DN told me, 2g carbs per 100g = good, 20g carbs per 100g - bad! :lol: Like I said, it helps more when you're eating processed food but it does me as a rule of thumb thing.

No you are not right.

Food is not labelled in that way it is expressed as amount of carbohydrates (in grams) per 100 gram of said food.

But even that is not the whole picture.

What really matters is how many carbs you will consume in a serving of that food.

Formula to work it out is
(serving size) divided by (100) times (grams per 100)

Examples : If the serving size is 50 grams and the label says that there are 20 grams per 100 grams then you will consume 10 grams of carbohydrate (50/100x20). If the label says that there are 60 grams of carbohydrate per 100 gram and the serving size is 10 gram then you will consume 6 grams of carbohydrate (60/100x10).
 
Check that the carbs content is for dry weight, sometimes it is shown for a cooked weight and they are very different.

Thank you all, think I am doing better with it now...I am trying to eat carb free breakfast and lunch and having some with my main meal...All trial and error and some days I guess I will have them other times...I'm not aiming for no carbs just fewer than usual...Hoping to lose weight as well as control the diabetese...Thank you for all your help, I know where to come for future probs...

That's usually because you are still craving carbs.....it's like an addiction. After a week or so you should find things getting easier.
 
0 carbs....I would soooo stuggle with that, good luck!!... Bet your weight loss will be high

have you managed to get confused by the concept of "Exchanges"
this used to be the way dieticians worked out diets for diabetics and 10 grams of carb was counted as one "exchange"
I've come across it in older texts, but I don't think anyone uses it any more. Ally 5555 might be able to enlighten us on that.
Otherwise i can't see where you're getting that number 10 from.
Patch and Cugila have both shown you the way to work it out in grams.
A no carb breakfast would be a couple of scrambled eggs and a near no carb lunch would be a green salad with a piece of chicken. In mixed salads, tomatoes and roots contain small amounts of carb.

How do you make your scrambled eggs Hana ?

There is a small amount of carbs in an egg and, if you use milk there is a small amount of carbs in that as well.

So that would be a minimal carb content not a NO carb content.
 
I'd definitely count scrambled eggs as a (pretty **** close to) no carb meal. Even with a splash of milk (probably less than a tsp) the carb content would be negligible.

Lets not confuse the OP even more, eh?

**** close is not close enough for this Forum...... Here we like to be accurate.
If you are only eating 10g carbs per day then we are talking about 1/5 th of your daily allowance.
That's a lot in my book..........

A 1 Egg (60g) Scrambled with Milk = 0.7g carbs. Add another Egg and a bit more Milk and it makes 1.4g carbs, 3 Eggs and milk makes 2.1g carbs.

The only confusion is when people say it is Nil carbs..........clearly it isn't. Never has been. If you are expecting a nil carb snack or breakfast you need to know that all those little 'extras' soon add up.

I love a couple of scrambled Eggs.........I also like to know my exact carb count !

You want facts.....you get them.......no confusion.......simples ! :|

I had a good old chat with my dabetic nurse on Thurs and I think I have it pretty much sussed thanks Hanna....LIke I said previously I am cutting back on the carbs (not going for 0 intake)...Am on day 3 and for me am doing really well...Proof will be in my next blood tests beginning of March, oh and of course in my weigh in on Thusday...
