If you are based in Lincolnshire, your town may well have a Polish or continental grocers. They sell nice rye bread. They also sell interesting tinned fish. I have also been faced with a T2 diagnosis fairly recently. I have found it best to focus on the things I can eat, rather than the things I can't eat. Eating out is a testing exception to this - particularly on a trip to the seaside which seemed flooded with carbs. I have pretty much cut out bread, much reduced potato, pasta rice etc to a small serving in only one meal a day. I have to have packed lunches a couple of times a week -John West tins of "light lunch" fish salad make a handy grab and go option, Prince's do nice handy packs of tuna with stuff that can be eaten with a bit of salad. Chinese takeaway food is a bit of a minefield. Many dishes include sugar (avoid anything labelled sweet & sour:arghh:). I substituted bean sprouts for rice last time we had a takeaway which worked pretty well, and reluctantly avoided mopping up the sauce with anything. I have been pleasantly surprised with the way weight has fallen off since I went much lower carb. I will soon be booking my 3 monthly check up with diabetic nurse and will be able to see the impact on HbA1C. Best wishes Adam
