Hi all

I'm new to the forum and looking at getting pregnant soonish, my last HB1C was 7.5% (hoping it will have come down by the next test) however i was just wondering if anyone has a CGM for pregnancy and if so is it worth it?

I currently live in Italy for my husbands work but was in the UK before that so i cannot get one without self funding and i was just wondering about other peoples views on this or do you think its unnecessary?

TIA

I have the minimed CGM and while it's been helpful here and there, it's also been very expensive. I haven't used it since June (now 26 weeks). It was helpful to see trends, but in some ways it also stressed me out more to wear it because I programmed in the pregnancy guideline numbers - maybe should have given myself a wee bit more leeway. I've been swinging around a lot with my numbers so I may try it again in the next week. I have 2 sensors left and I'd rather not buy more if I can help it (for a box of 5 I think it was $200 Canadian).

It usually read a little lower than I actually was (within 2mmol usually). I had issues with lost connections at night when I put my pump under my pillow - even though it was within 2 feet of the sensor. If I attached it to my PJ bottoms it was better but annoying. I was never able to wear the sof-sensors because they were too painful but the newer Enlite's were fantastic - easy to insert and I could wear them for 6 days no problem. The difference between the wire of each of them is huge (enlite is like a piece of tinsel, sof-sensor is like a catheter).

I've heard the dexcom is more accurate and most people prefer it. If I had the money I would shell out for the next time I'm pregnant.

Hi,

I had a CGM throughout most of my pregnancy, which I got through a study so luckily I didn't have to pay but it was the best device I could have had during my pregnancy, my control had never be soon good! My hba1c was 5.8%

I'm so gutted I had to give it back! I wouldn't have got such tight control with out it I don't think!

Totally worth it I think
Xxx

Hi I tried but decided to not continue as would have to self fund. I'm on my second pregnancy - my first I started off with hba1c of 7ish but got it down to about 6. Am currently nearly 34w with twins and started off being 5.5. Both without Cgm.
I found it quite irritating/painful and assume you still have to calibrate to your meter anyway so was still testing all the time which is way more accurate. There is also a time lag on them I think it's about 15mins. I can see that they would be helpful with hypo unawareness. I test a lot though and set my alarm to get up during the night (don't need the alarm second time round as up that often anyway!). For me it was too expensive to self fund without massive benefits. Different story for the pump as don't think I could be pregnant without it (been t1 since I was 2 so seen alot of changes).
Good luck x
