Hi, I want to see if I have everything I need and it's all compatible. I was using the Sony smartwatch with an old Sony phone and used glimp to scan the libre directly. I now want to go CGM and have a graph of recent readings on my watch. I'm open to buying a new watch if needed.

I have a galaxy S9. Sony Smartwatch 3. Libre sensor.

I will be buying the Miao Miao.

Do I just get android wear for my S9 and SW3, then download xdrip and pair the watch with the miao miao? The smart watch has been taken back to an old revision level, will that still work or does it need to update to a latest version?

I'd like to hear from anyone that's gone from the smart watch scanning to a miao miao setup please.

Thanks and kind regards

I can’t comment if your phone and watch are Libre/Miaomiao compatible.
However, I wanted to warn you Libre v2 is due to be released soon. This will include Bluetooth alerts making it nearer to a CGM without the need to pimp it with Miaomiao.
The other thing is Libre v2 encrypts the data so non Libre apps (which Miaomiao use) may not work when it is first released.

For these reasons, I am delaying my Libre pimping until v2 is released.

Hi Helen, thanks for replying. I do remember seeing that libre 2 was being released in Europe in Nov/Dec 2018 but there was no release date for the UK. Is that still the case or do we know it's close now? I would buy the miao miao for 6 months use or more but not if I know have to wait 2 months.

The last time I read, it is due to be released in April.
Not long now.

If they've introduced encryption to Libre 2 sensors does that mean that the readers for Libre 1 are incompatible also or that they didn't have encryption activated on the Libre 1 sensors? Good way to sell more readers if so or steer people to move to a phone with NFC and app.

I will hold faith that like other things, this will be reverse engineered given a bit of time.

Another slightly different question then - could I purchase the Libre 2 from mainland Europe and have it shipped to the UK? Is there anyone distributing in the UK at the moment?

I have friends with regular work trips to Germany. If they are over the counter this would be fine, if its part of a registered healthcare system its more difficult.

As far as I am aware no one is currently selling them in the UK simply because they are not officially released in this country as yet.

I do not know how you would active the sensor if you did get one from Germany, I would have thought you would have to get a full kit so sensor and reader, I have not seen any Apps in the UK that will see or read a Libre 2.

BUT I could be wrong on that.

Hi, @Bufger , on the watch question, I got libre/mm/xdrip+ running fine with a 100 quid LG K8 phone and a Fossil Explorist watch, so I've not really kept up with what's been going on with other watches.

These links might throw more light on it.

A useful guide for setting it up, with some stuff about which watches will work as collectors without a phone (ticwatch and finnow q1 pro seem to work too as they are basically small phones in watch shape):
https://github.com/jamorham/xDrip-plus/blob/master/Documentation/WatchGuide.md

The xDrip+ issues page, there's a few posts about issues getting Sony smartwatch and Samsung phones to play nicely (Samsung phones have notoriously quirky bluetooth implementation, xDrip+ is coded to say "Buggy Samsung - using workaround), so you might not be in heaven with your S9:
https://github.com/NightscoutFoundation/xDrip/issues

The lead developer's JamOrHam, gitter site, where the developers and others discuss uber-geeky technical aspects of it all, they seem to be happy enough answering questions, I've seen a couple of folks from this site posting on it:

On the libre2 question, this is all a bit up in the air at the moment.

Libre2 is not full on cgm, it just makes the new reader ring/vibrate if you go out of range, then you need to scan it to see what the number is. It has bluetooth in it to let it do that. But that's all it does.

Marek Macner in Poland has managed to get data out of it to Spike (ios version of xdrip) using his home-made T-mini transmitter, and has posted saying he's only been at it for a month and there's still work to do to be certain about the accuracy of it.

That gives some reassurance that the encryption issue is maybe not that big a deal but who knows at the moment.

What we're bricking it about at the moment is if they start prescribing just libre2 and it turns out that we can't get it running to xdrip through either mm or the native libre bluetooth. Marek at least getting data out of it suggests this is do-able but it's very much wait and see just now.

Here's an article about Marek getting data out of it:
