i bought some Chana Dal from Tesco recently and the nutritional data on the pack said that 34 g of dry weight (i.e. uncooked ) gives calories 85 and carbs 10.7. I make this to be 250/31.5 per 100 g dry weight. However, looking on the web the average seems to be about 360/60. It may be that the web sites I've visited are mainly american and the carbs include fibre, but even so the calories also differ significantly from the Tesco derived values. Does anyone have any reliable data for this?
In any event the good news is that it seems to be excellent for the blood sugars. I had some Chana dal and vegetable curry on a bed of finely chopped savoy cabbage and my figures pre and post were 7.4 and 6.8, although I'm a bit unsure about the 7.4! Even so the 6.8 is great.
