Hi My mum (who is 81 years old) has been on Humulin M3 since mid August last year (dose morning and before evening meal). However, she continually had nocturnal hypos and the hospital stopped the evening insulin. Hypos have continued (every night) and despite my continually contacting Nurse Specialists it took until February for one of them to suggest I contact GP to get an urgent appointment back to clinic to see consultant. GP did referral the same day. We waited a month for the appointment. Consultant (who said, I really don't know what to do!!!) decided to change Insulin to Humulin S. We then had to wait another month to be seen in Insulin Clinic for the Nurse Specialists to go through the change with us. Mum was on 17 units of Humulin M3 in a morning. She is now on 2 units of Humulin S three times a day but dependent on her readings. The Nurse Specialists have said she may not require a dose before evening meal. Mum only commenced Humulin S on Tuesday. She certainly does not require a dose in a morning as she is too low. She has been having a dose before lunch and again she has not required a dose before her evening meal. I just wondered if anyone knew if changing over from the 17 units of Humulin M3 to suddenly taking 2 units of Humulin S would make mum feel unwell in anyway? Does the body feel that change of Insulin? I did ask this question of the Nurse Specialists on Tuesday but they were very vague. Mum just feels a bit "out of sorts" this morning - headache, tired, she didn't really want to her breakfast. (Blood sugar okay this morning). Any advice or information would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.
