Dear All,

I am Sasha Andrejchenko, Diabetes Mellititus, Type 1 (from 1988).

I come from Macedonia, where we have insulin crisis going on, when we (24.000 diabetics) are obliged immediately to switch from Novo Nordisk insulins (Novorapid, Levemir, Novomix...) on other types, such as Sanofi or Elli Lilly products.

This is mainly done because of financial reasons in the country, and also because of pharmaceutical consortia interests, for sure.

We strongly believe that the immediate switch to another type may bring different consequences without constant detailed medical checks over some time period.

There are a lot of examples where some patients had Novo Nordisk insulins in the past, they were switched to Humalog and then they had to be brought back again to Novo Nordisk, because of the body resistance on it.

We are trying to raise our voice by presenting open debates, but none of the endocrinologist specialists in the country are willing to support us, mostly because they are afraid of the consequences - mostly of losing their jobs :-(

I would like to ask if any of you had some experience with change of insulin types ? And also, if possible, can we receive some email from some respectable endocrinologist, in order to acquire his opinion on the immediate insulin change.

Thanks in advance,
Sasha Andrejchenko

Good luck with your fight. That is a tough situation.
Unfortunately from my personal experience I never had any problems switching, or with switching to Lantus and Humalog specifically.
