Changed from Metform standard to metformin SR

Hi I have been diagnosed as Diabetic type 2 since the end of April this year. I started on Metformin 3 x 500 mg as BG was 23.9. After 3 weeks I was also put on another tablet to take once a day before my main meal. I had a few stomach problems with the Metformin after a month or so, and have changed to the slow release tablet from today. I tested just before lunch today and it was 9.2 which is highter than it has been for about 3 weeks. Is this the slow release tablets? Surely it's not good to have a highter reading than the 7.1 or 6.4 ish that is 'normal' for me since being on the metformin standard tablets. Hope this post makes sense!
 
I changed from standard Metformin to the Glucophage branded modified release version last week and dropped the dosage slightly as a result and my levels didn't seem much affected. Anything else it could be - a cold perhaps?
 
Ahh! Maybe, I've had a tummy bug over the weekend so perhaps that's affected the reading. Just don't want to walk around all day with readings highter than when I was taking the standard metformin. Thanks for your answer
