Hello, I am new here, but I have been a type 2 diet controlled for 6 years, and doing quite well.
I am 48 years old and pretty fit, but big. I recently lost 14 Kgs through cycling since February this year,I lost * kgs in two weeks n a 540 KM charity cycle ride. my problem is now I am finding by sugars crashing really low really quickly, lately, does anyone know if this is a function/reaction of my quick change in body weight. I share a flat with a type 1 and generally we do OK, but in the last few weeks I am allover the place, any suggestions.

Cheers

It might be, depends on what you regard as 'really low'. The sort of weight loss you describe can result in your insulin response returning to normal as your liver and pancreatic fats fall below a certain level. If this has happened and if you are continuing to watch what you eat and exercise, you should start to see some low readings around 4.1, 4.3, after which they should bounce back up. If they continue to fall however or if you are seeing regular readings in the 2s and 3s say, you should see the doctor. 4.0 is at the bottom end of the normal range but, if you have been used to seeing higher numbers, it can come as a shock when you first see them.

It could also be false meter readings, strips damaged in the warm weather or any one of a number of other things. Comparing your readings with a type 1 however is just going to confuse. The processes are very different.

Hello, Thanks so much for your reply. Really low, Sunday was Low,collapsing low, but it dropped so fast, I went from saying I need something NOW to having to be fed, in less than 5 minutes, first time that has happened for a very very long time. I guess I am ok don't see many below 4, and after meals 8 is top. I have been seeing 5.5's a lot and low 6's after meals don't think I am being to careful but the weight loss has been pleasing. Thanks for the info and best of luck to all. Checked readings and machine etc, all fine.

Much appreciated.
