Hi
I've been on Humolog for the last 14 months with post-prandial spikes which last a couple of hours. My Doctor has given me a prescription for Fiasp. Is it best to start the new insulin on a new day and will I take exactly the same dose? Also I use a half unit pen with Humolog but the pharmacist says Fiasp doesn't come with half unit pens. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Did your doctor not give you any guidance on this ? Members of this forum are not doctors so cannot tell you how much insulin to take. Can you contact a DSN to get sone answers ?

There is a half unit pen, it's called the NovoPen Echo. It can be hard to find though as at least in Canada where I live, pharmacies don't carry it.
I've been able to get them directly from my endocrinologist.

I use fiasp with a 1/2 unit pen. The same one I used for novarapid. A novopen echo.

My only warning would be if eating slow release stuff, probably best to split the dose or at least take after meal. I've had a couple of quite severe hypos which I can only put down to the FIASP kicking in before the food, then when I took stuff to fix the hypo it all came in together and I ended up swinging high.

Apart from that it's all good. Don't think you need to worry about how to introduce it. I've switched multiple times a day

Whilst I can't tell you anything about doses as everyone's is personal to them, I can tell you that I use Fiasp in half units with my Novopen Echo. I get 3ml cartridges on repeat prescription rather than disposable pens which only allow 1u increments.

Thank you everyone. Really useful info. I'll tell pharmacist about the Novopen Echo tomorrow and see if he can get hold of one. Thanks again.

You may have to ask for one from your diabetes team - are you seen at a hospital clinic? My DSN gave me my Echo pen and sent a treatment advice to my GP to change the insulin to cartridges rather than disposable pens.
