Changing from Levimer to Tresiba

Hi everyone, I am a type 1 diabetic have been for 14 years now. Been on the same insulins all this time which are Novorapid and Levimer. Over the last years my control is very up and down lots of hypos then rebound highs. My HBA1c has been stable for ages at 8.2 ( old terms ) my hospital DN would like it to be lower. My DN reckons levimer is not being effective in me anymore so she now wants to change my Levimer to tresiba. I am willing to give a different insulin a try, but I am feeling worried about changing,probably because I have never had my insulin changed until now !! Just wanting to hear from other diabetics about experiences with changing over to Tresiba. Has it helped your overall blood sugar control. Did you have side effects like extra weight gain ?? Any advice or info would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot kind peeps xx

Hi @shellsummer - I switched from Levemir to Tresiba, I really liked it, flat profile, lasts 2 days so one injection a day, I was on less Tresiba than Levemir, didn't experience any weight increase, much better background, much much better so don't worry, just don't make changes in the doses within a couple of days of each other as takes a few days to adjust

hi @shellsummer - I changed from Lantus to Tresiba just over 2 years ago and have found it to be very flat. No weight gain and I needed a few units less per day. Highly recommended.

I was in a similar situation as u not long ago... I was on Novorapid and Levimer and it wasn't working for me... So we changed it to 3 injections of Novorapid (breakfast, lunch, dinner and whenever I snack I take an extra 5 units in between meals) and Tresiba just before bed and since then it's sitting between 5-7 most the time witch is the best it's been at in years
 
This post is really helpful. I've had difficulties with levemir and getting severe lows.

The flat profile of Tresiba sounds like it could be a really good option! I'm spending the next 3 months putting my all into improving my levemir control but I will definitely raise this with my diabetes specialist in January!
 
The flat profile of tresiba caused me lots of problems, as i am more sensitive to insulin in the evening and less sensitive in the morning. So I need more insulin in the morning and less in the evening which you cant do with tresiba, you just have the same level all day and never runs out. So i was high every morning and low every evening. Finally managed to get off it and back to the old basal now.
 
I got switched from Levimir to Tresiba about a month after my diagnosis. My Endocrinologist and my diabetic educator said Tresiba is a more stable base. After taking it I definitely see the difference. With Levimir I would have a lot more ups and downs, especially later in the day. I like it so far.
 
I had 10 units Levemir in the morning and 10 units in the evening plus 8 units Novorapid at each meal. I changed to Tresiba once a day and started at 14 units in the morning. The Novorapid I need is now much higher. I had good control before, almost too low and now I am at 14-21 and sometimes below 3. I had to increase Tresiba to 16 units and there were no difference. Today I increased it again and I have now 18 units. The strange thing is that Novorapid doesn't react as before. With Levemir and high blood sugar, it was fine to take 2 units Novorapid to lower the blodsugar. Now I can take like 6-8 units extra and the level is still too high. Maybe Tresiba and Novorapid doesn't work together.
