Dx 18 months ago and gone through all oral medication. On Humalog mix since end of September and moving onto MDI this Friday. From various posts want to push for Levemir rather than Lantus but already know I will have a fight as the practice nurse says the GP says it has to be Lantus. However I have printed off relevant pages of latest regs which only mention both as being equal so "patient choice" I would have though prevails. Any thoughts?
I know as a type 2 I may be irregularly still pushing out some insulin so it may be difficult to get good control but to me Levemir gives the better opportunity with less chance of hypos, no loss of hypo awareness, no stinging of injections. Plus it is available in pens which deliver half units. Anything else - or do you think I should take the view they know best what will suit me - as if the professionals have not ever got it wrong for anyone in the past?
