My brother is currently on Humolog mix 25 and was thinking of changing to novorapid and lantus/levemir.

Has anyone else made this change?

My brother's control is attrocious and ALWAYS very high blood sugars.

I am on Novorapid/Lantus, as is my sister but I am going to see about changing to Levemir as I dont like the effects Lantus has on me (I am a moody cow at the best of times!!) :-)

Would be very grateful for any advice/information I could pass on to him.

Also, he has not been to clinic in over 5 years and isnt too keen on going anytime soon.

Hi @mammamia2006 , I moved from Lantus to Levemir earlier this year. This is my topic just detailing what I did, what changed, etc: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/thr...pefully-providing-some-lessons-learned.70039/

How old is your brother? It is possible to manage on Mixed Insulin very effectively, as long as a person is disciplined in what they eat and when. How is your brother in this respect? I suspect it will be difficult to move to an MDI regime without the support of a clinic and I'm sure you and he are aware of the risks of running high all the time. Why is he not keen on the clinic visit?

He says he doesnt like the people there but to be honest, he always has a different excuse for not going. He is 32. He eats 10 tonnes of junk every day. I wasnt much better to be fair. I had my first bag of crisps in a month today and thought they tasted like poop so at least I am onto a winner :-)
