If you want to look at results in the computer, try to find out as much as possible about the software first. I think most brands of meters have their own software, which are all slightly different, so it's important to find one you can live with. Not all the meters seem to download results in a universal format that you can just chuck into Excel or whatever. Also if you use a Mac most of the software isn't compatible. I have an optium exceed, which is a good meter but I hate the software. It presents my results in a number of ways that I find meaningless! But then since I record my carbs and insulin alongside my bg results, I find my book is the most useful way to look at the data. I also find all the iPhone apps too restrictive. It all seems to be centred around meals. But there's no column for 'latte when I get home' or 'random sugary junk I are when I went hypo'!
So it's worth investigating before you spend money
