Hiiii again,

i'm full of questions lately

Just wondering... if i were to get a new meter... (i'm looking at the contour USB!)

how easy is it to get your precription changed for strips?

do you have to see a doc/nurse or can you do it by phone?

I'd rather not see a doc as it's not urgent and i'd hate to waste anyones time if unessecary!

And i also work over my surgery's opening time so i always have to have time off to go aswell!

thanksssssss :)

Just inform your practise about the change in prescription, some manufacturers have a slip inside the box to hand in to your gp surgery, there shouldn't be any problems.

I would wait and see what pump you eventually get before you buy another bg meter.

The Contour strips will work with the Veo pump using bluetooth from the Carelink but the Combo will only work with the Aviva strips.

Ah, that is a very good point! i never thought of that! thanks!

I'll wait til i see my bossman DB doc then :)

My meter i have now is okay, but i like the idea of seeing everything on a computer!

thanks

Depends on your surgery. Mine won't change my scrip without a visit, and when I asked for more strips they made me see the in house pharmacy geezer.

If you want to look at results in the computer, try to find out as much as possible about the software first. I think most brands of meters have their own software, which are all slightly different, so it's important to find one you can live with. Not all the meters seem to download results in a universal format that you can just chuck into Excel or whatever. Also if you use a Mac most of the software isn't compatible. I have an optium exceed, which is a good meter but I hate the software. It presents my results in a number of ways that I find meaningless! But then since I record my carbs and insulin alongside my bg results, I find my book is the most useful way to look at the data. I also find all the iPhone apps too restrictive. It all seems to be centred around meals. But there's no column for 'latte when I get home' or 'random sugary junk I are when I went hypo'!

So it's worth investigating before you spend money :-)

I also record carb amount and insulin taken alongside my readings which i totally agree is very useful, i use a dafne diary which i find so much better than other diaries i've been given!

Thing is i'm very good at losing things! so it'd be really useful for me if i could transfer results to a computer, i also like technical things so i like the up to date new meters, i've never used one with a computer before as i've only ever had free ones where i've never got a USB lead with.

I've also looked around for handy iphone apps but all seem to lack in some sort of way like you said no space for random input.

I'd love to design an app that would be simple, yet so much option to fit around all possiblities that can happen with diabetes!
