Hi so after 4 months of leg swelling endless anti biotic scans for clots and 6 weeks of a cancer scare doctors that wouldn't listen about a pain in my foot and a gp who said they had done all they could I went back to a+e and explained to a new doctor what I had been through. She asked what xray had shown and was amazed that one had never been done....... 3rd 4th and 5th metatarsals have been broken for 4 months!!! Charco foot has now been mentioned by a consultant... does any one know much about it?

What a nasty thing to happen. An xray would, I'd have thought, been the very first test. Have you done the doctor google thing on Charco foot, you can normally get an overview of causes and possible treatments from online NHS sites etc.

Yeh i have done that but I was hopping to get someone with experience of it as it seems to be very rare. Had an app with one of my GPS and his father was covering for him ( his father has been family gp for 40 yrs) and he had no experience of it.

Charcot foot is a diabetic complication. It happens when someone with peripheral neuropathy suffers a trauma, or multiple micro traumas, to their foot and they end up with multiple unnoticed fractures in the foot causing bone and joint disorganisation in the foot.

You should be being seen by a diabetes podiatrist really.

Try a search for Charcot foot in the top left hand corner search box.

I'm waiting for an mri to see if there is an infection in the bone then further treatment will be discussed. Thanks I'll check it out
