Germany have developed a new method to cheaply produce insulin for the treatment of Diabetes. This will make it affordable to people in developing countries.

Stopping the needless deaths from Type 1 diabetes because of the cost is the way forward IMHO.

The life expectancy of a newly diagnosed child with Type 1 diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa may be as short as 1 year.

Insulin is not always available and when it is then it takes half the family's income to fund it.

With respect Catherine, for the majority of third world countries, infant death due to T1 is the least of their troubles.

At the risk of sounding like an old tree hugging hippie, it saddens me greatly that in the 21st century we have more counties at war than ever before and the charity adverts showing black children dying in Africa that I watched as a child are still on telly to this day.

What kind of world is it we live in where one half of it is rich and abundant and the other half is poor and dying of starvation???

This thread was about cheap insulin, not the state of the world, and surely as diabetics we should be empathetic to their plight?
