On my last visit to my DSN she told me my Lantus would be replaced with a cheaper version in the future. I didn't write it down at the time so don't remember the brand name. Anyone else had this happen?

p.s. I'm in the UK on free prescriptions so the cost saving goes to the NHS, not me.

Basaglar is the name. It's not a great deal cheaper though, based on what we've seen of US pricing. It's a biosimilar version of Insulin Glargine, which is no longer on patent for Sanofi.

My local surgery replaced my lantus with this cheaper version without any consulation!! My type 1 care has always been consultant led from the local hospital have never gone to gps am a little furious about this but they flatly refuse to let me have lantus!!!

Sometimes the insulin goes off line or and the licence is pulled without notice and they don't have to tell you that it has been and you are changed on to another insulin and the doctor doesn't have to tell you a thing even if you question about it as it's happened to me a few times
