Check up and Advice

Hello!

I had my first blood test after diagnosis today, the nurse gave some unusual advice along with the usual “don’t cut carbs” which I wanted to check. She told me not to eat after 6pm? As my body can’t cope with food after that? I have never heard this before and wondered if eating dinner at 7pm will be making a difference to my blood sugars long term.

She also asked if I drank diet fizzy juice, I have one can a day, have tested and it doesn’t raise my blood sugar. She advised me to cut this out but told me I could continue with bread?! I know diet juice is not all that healthy but it’s a habit I’ve cut way down on compared with pre diagnosis.

Hi. Your nurse obviously hasn't a clue and shouldn't be dealing with diabetic patients. See if you can see someone else next time. You can eat whenever you want but do need to keep the carbs down which includes bread. Diet fizzy drinks are ok in sensible quantities although some people worry about the sugar substitutes (I don't)

Thanks @Daibell I thought so. I’ve been low carbing since I was diagnosed, but was paranoid I’d been eating at the wrong time. I have one can with my dinner each night and I tested the first few times I had one on its own to see if it would spike me, thankfully it didn’t. Starting to think people on this group should be paid rather than some of the nurses.
