I recently got caught by a chest infection, had to talk with an emergency doctor and got given a steroid: Prednisolone 6 x 5mg as well as Anti-biotics. The last time I had this combination i ended up in hospital with blood sugars higher then the meter could read and ++++ on Ketones. This time I have been better prepared.
I checked by bloods every 4 hours, and of course went into ketosis. Blood sugars highest reading was 22. Rather then going to hospital this time I opted to stay home but go on a zero carb diet for the time I was taking them. Of course I had a range of ketosis ++ to +++ but my blood sugar stabilized around 12.
I have had a funny diagnosis, so currently being treat as Type 2 (although I was on insulin originally). I upped my Metaphormin to 2 tablets twice a day, and I have always been on maximum glicazide.
My question is, Is there a better way of dealing with this, whats the right thing to do?
Thanks
