Chewing gum

Can I chew if I have a fasting blood test in the morning?

I note "sugar free" involves 60g of carbs per 100g

I use gum to manage a dry mouth - the only real diabetic symptom I have had (this stared about 18 months ago and I put it down to something else). However, the dry mouth is slightly improved over the last couple of weeks.

Is there any genuine sugar free gum?

Hi spiral,
Even sugar free gum can affect a fasting test, i was told to stay away from that.
60g of carbs, that is more carbs than i have in a day.
The other thing is chewing gum even sugar free chew too much and can have a laxative effect i found that out the hard way after chewing way too much gum for my dry mouth!

100g of gum seems like rather a lot to be chewing, so I doubt the carb effect is noticeable with just 1 stick or 1 tab? But they probably do contain sorbitol which tends to have an unfortunate toilet dash consequence, to different extents with each person!

I was simply reading the nutritional information on the outside of the tub. I'm vegetarian and have always read labels, being diabetic has enabled me to reach new (and occasionally very disturbing) heights with my little hobby. 100g is indeed a lot of gum and I am pleased to reassure you that I don't chew it all at once. Sorbitol and maltitol...
