Type of diabetes
Type 1
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 back in october, she was only 3. shes on nova rapid and lantus injections. We havnt started carb counting so are still on set units plus correction doses. On monday at clinic i was told her pancreas has given up so 'honey moon' period had ended which at that point i thought explained all the high readings. So her doctor upped all her doses and closed in on corrections, i was previously only correcting with meals so now ive got to correct at any time i get a reading over 9mmols. But tonight for example she had a reading of 18.3 after nursery so i gave her 2units of nova rapid as a correction as 1 unit brings down by 6 plus her tea time 3.5units, she had a dinner she has had plenty of times controlled carbs no sugar drinks. 2 hours later she was 4.3… then bedtime she was 9.7 so again 0.5 nova rapid then her 3units lantus long lasting. 2 hour post correction check was 14.0 she had gone to bed with water, can anyone give me advice or tell me if im going wrong somewhere? As u can imagine its hard as shes my 4 year old baby so please dont judge me x

Hi
It's hard! What sort of carbs is she having? Long acting/short acting (glycemic index)?
Did she do less exercise at nursery?
I gave my 2yr old a correction at 8.30 so going to check her again in a min-just feeding one of the babies.
Is this normal for her?
I'm trying to limit the number of injections/corrections I do. I'm type1 too and sometimes you can do too many and it all catches up! What are her morning sugars like?
x

It will be really hard and as a Dad and my kids not having Diabetes yet, just try follow what the Dr,s and nurses say for now. you are doing the correct thing in lowering bloods etc.

If it continues and you are concerned then phone the Hospitals diabetes unit for advice and my heart goes out to you your daughter and mam, its a horrible thing diabetes but treatment has come along a huge amount in the last few years so please try not to worry

I'm with you on this one. I'm T1 as is my son since 15months(coming up to 3yrs old now) my son is on 12.5units of lantus and anywhere between 3 and 6 units of rapid at meal times. Am I correct in reading she is only on 3 units of lantus?

Yes shes on 3…3…3.5…3 up until monday her pancreas was still supplying some insulin though, what i dont get is im correcting her yet her blood sugars are higher after, i do watch n write the carbs shhe has and has no sugary drinks/sweets, carb free or very low snacks. Going to give them a call today see what they say
