Hello, I love a nice Chinese takeaway. I've switched from my usual special fried rice to a prawn or mushroom foo yeung. I used to have a small egg fried rice as a side, but today I had bean sprouts. I like them, but they didn't really go. I know I could fry up some cauliflower rice, but does anyone have any ideas of a side that I could buy to go with it?

Thanks for any ideas.

I usually just have the foo yeung, but my local Chinese does dry salt and pepper ribs which are nice and spicy and I sometimes have them instead, used to share with hubby but he doesn’t eat red meat anymore. I find takeaway Chinese the hardest cuisine of all to get anything suitable.

Personally I think it's as easy to make an omelette at home - cheese, mushroom, onion, prawn etc. - and have salad as it is to get a takeaway. But I don't like the takeaway in the village I live in and the next one is 8-10 miles drive each way.

Thanks for the replies. I did try and make a mushroom foo yeung at home, but it didn't work. My local Chinese takeaway does a very small egg fried rice, which I might risk from time to time. That, with the foo yeung, doesn't seem to have that much of an effect on my blood sugar.

Adding soy sauce (or coconut aminos) and Chinese 5 spice, ditching the cheese and folding it as you cook make it all a bit more authentic foo yung rather than English omelette

for other home options look up crackslaw or egg roll in a bowl recipes.

I did a great keto beef and broccoli Korean dish this week (blend of two recipes) Fundamentally minced beef, soy, ginger, garlic, sesame oil and broccoli. Done in minutes and very tasty. I just had this but cauli rice would go well (home made or micro packets available ) or lightly sauté thin strips of cabbage as noodles

Tonight is satay chicken www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/chicken-satay-sauce

I think bean sprouts go fine with a foo yung and the two are high on my options. I find Chinese trickiest and don’t have it more than maybe once a year as a result but I also look at stir fried veg and meat dishes without a sauce or a carefully chosen one. I also ask that no sugar be added when cooking and they don’t have an issue with that.

I might try that. Thanks.
