Hi Lopper,

The advice from Diabetes UK about diabetic chocolates is that they should be avoided. The makers tend to replace the sugar with an alternative sweetener, either maltitol or more usually sorbitol, both of which are laxatives and are only slightly less carbohydrate than sugar! Best bet is to have ordinary chocolate, but in small quantities, just an occasional one.

Your hunger this afternoon was probably down to the fact that beans on toast for breakfast, then just fruit for lunch, is most likely less carbohydrate and calories than your body needs, so you would feel hungry.

There is a Canderel based chocolate on the market in dark and milk form. Available in Tesco, and no doubt elsewhere.

I don't like diabetic chocolate particulary only have them when i visit my partners parents, and they are so expensive. I go for the normal stuff and bolus away. I do understand that alot of type 2's are not able to do that

Same. I read several times and was told by the doc as well that the "food for diabetic" was just a way to get £££ from us. That it was really expensive and it was recommended to get the proper treat...i mean normal chocolate. Dark one's the best for us because less sugary!
I luuuuuv chocolate

I luv chocolate too, that is my weakness. Here in the office today someone has sent in 2 tins of Chocs. I have to walk past them all the time, what torture!!

Hope we all have a peaceful Christmas.

When I was a kid (many moons ago) my parents, or my mom in particular, investigated the so called 'diabetic foods', and came to the conclusion that they're rubbish.
I agree with this finding particularly in the modern day where having the word 'diabetic' on the label is just a ploy to make money.

There is no food in the world that anyone suffering from diabetes can't eat, whether you have type 1 or 2.
The important fact of the matter is that a diabetes sufferer can't always eat as much as they might like. That's all there is to it.

kind regards
Dave
