Chocolate Addiction - TV program

On BBC1 this pm - did you see it? Put a "chocoholic" in an MRI scanner and fed chocolate through a tube! How good is that! Scanner showed same parts of brain lit up as with alcohol and nicotine addiction. HOWEVER, not enough chemicals for physical addiction. Then showed PHOTOS of chocolate and same bits lit up, so psychological. Found that those lit up bits could be put out out during photos by using Cognitive part if brain: that is, saying " an apple would stop me being hungry too" Tried it looking at an apple and kit Kat - kit Kat won! Didn't eat it though, I'm a good sheep. Interesting program though!

Hi Grazer!

Perhaps we could ask the NHS to feed us chocolate through a tube while having us on an insulin drip as a special treat

Smidge

Incidentally, they did a similar experiment with photos of spiders a while back and discovered that for people with a fear of spiders, the pictures of them raised their adrenalin and caused other 'fight/flight' reactions just as much as seeing the real thing. Think I'd prefer the chocolate experiment tho

I seen it too! Was drooling while watching it :)

I am really surprised at the results though. I am convinced that I am addicted to the stuff. I am finding it so **** hard to give it up. A clementine just doesn't do it for me!

I think it's getting harder as time goes on. It seemed much easier to give it up when first diagnosed.

Decided to change from chocolate to crisps-according to the programme they have more potassium than a banana
