Cholesterol and diet

Had my 3 month test and everything more or less ok Hba was 39. Of slight concern was low HDL chlosterol/ high triglycerides although both just within range I’d like them to be better. Is there anything obvious I can do ? I’ve lost 3 stone now 87kg so pretty much ok I’m 6ft. I walk 70/80 miles a week. Diet is decent maybe could add more fruit vegetables. I’m a bit surprised by the result tbh considering my lifestyle now. Oh and I’m 53 if that’s relevant. Any suggestions on diet or anything else appreciated.

You are doing brilliantly so far. What does 'diet is decent' mean in real terms?

Did you fast for your lipid panel? Surgeries don’t generally ask people to fast any more but I like to then the levels will always be comparing like with like. Triglycerides can be artificially elevated if not fasted.

Ah interesting I didn’t think about that. How about hydration can that effect it, was quite a hot day and I’d walked a few miles to the hospital. Not sure what to answer in regard to diet is “ decent “ I think pretty much like I said when I first got diagnosed I was much stricter. Now I have a few treats but I think all it’s probably still better than the masses. But my only fruit intake really is bananas and Melon and I virtually have no veg at all.

Ouch both nasties.. but the fasting pre bloods is more important.

If you hadn't water only fasted for 12-14 hours pre test then results could have been skewed so become relatively meaningless.
