Hi

last year my cholestrol was
Total 5.9
LDL 3.89
Ratio/HDL 1.1
Triglycerides 5.36

now a year on with a healty diet its

Total 6.3
HDL 6.12
Trig 1.4
LDL 4.63

does this make any sense ?

I'm no expert, but your Trigs have come way down which is really good!

the nurse said as i phoned for my results that its gone up a lot and its awful

I believe the professionals tend to look at total cholesterol, but from what I see here it's the break down that's more important.

its just amazes me as it was lower when i was eating mc donalds and sweets every day. after 12 months of hard diet and exercise it goes up.

Have you lost a lot of weight as initially that can cause elevated cholesterol readings? Also I'm no expert , but your trigs are way better and although your LDL is up, without tests that they don't carry out here, you don't know the size of your particles and their number which is the more important factor than total cholesterol. I'm sure someone who knows more will be along with suitable links to read.

I hope so seems going to docs these days is another worry added. Scares me to death

As those figures right Turvell, maybe double check that they haven't made a mistake

I guess it's poss it looks odd to me. I got to see a doc next Tuesday I'll ask him but they force feed statins and I won't have them no way

Just seems strange that both the HDL and LDL are high together, like everyone else on the forum I'm no expert on these matters so wait to see what your Dr says on Tuesday. Good luck anyway.

Turvell, was that a fasting, or non-fasting test? How does the timing of taking the bloods relate to starting a low carb diet?

Have you watched the Professor Sikaris YouTube video I recommended to you weeks ago?

yes i did watch it. the test was fasting and it was about 2 weeks after starting the diet

Hi,
I agree that your figures need checking .
They usually calculate LDL because it's quite difficult and expensive to measure
The normal formula use is
LDL cholesterol = Total cholesterol – HDL cholesterol – Total triglyceride ÷ 2.19 (in mmol/l)
Heres a heart UK leaflet that explains
http://heartuk.org.uk/images/uploads/healthylivingpdfs/HUKcfs_E_Freidewald_Method.pdf
If I put your reported TC ,HDL and trigs into that they come nowhere near the LDL

(not sure that your earlier figures actually compute either, though the high trig figure means that the normal formula shouldn't be used )
