Dear All,

Hope you are well.

I have just had my bloods done for cholesterol levels.

my results are:

HDL : 1.3
LDL : 5.3
Trig : 1.0

Now my doctor wants me to take Satins, but I have refused so far, but I have an review approintment with him and he will be putting the pressure on me to take Satin drugs again.

My last HBa1C was 6.3, I am now even more well controlled on the BS side threw your help from people on this forum..

My Q is: are my cholesterol results that bad??

ALso does Low carbing raise your cholesterol levels (LDLs), as you are asking your bodies to burn the 2nd choice fuel (body FAT) for energy???

As my BMI now is 23.5 and coming down all the time, it was about 24.7

I am type 2 and low carb ect..

My reason for not taking (refusing) satin drugs is all the issues that they can casue and reading up on them ect.. And I want to control my diabetes for as long as I can drug free ect..

Any ideas.

Cheers

Simply,

Your HDL & Triglycerides levels are fine but your LDL level is very high, here are the target levels for people with diabetes:

HDL: 1 mmol/l or above for men; 1.2mmol/l or above for women

LDL: below 2 mmol/l

Triglycerides: equal to or below 1.7mmol/l

Total cholesterol: below 4 mmol/l

Hello All,

Needs some help on tips to lower my LDLs, as I am low carbing as well.

As I am rather worried.. And dont really want to take Satin's.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi
Have any of your family have high cholesterol especially your parents as you may have inherited your cholesterol condition if so diet and exercise wont cure the problems. I have inherited my cholesterol problem my total cholesterol at the last test was 6.9 and my triglyerides were 4 times higher then it should be also my my bad cholesterol was high too. I take a fibrate which is like statin. So far I havent had any side effects from this medication. I take many of medications for different things. I am due another fasting test at the end of April to see if the increase of medication has reduced the levels.
