Cholesterol Reading and what it means

To date GP's with uncaring attitudes, whom think they are diabetic consultants.
Hello all,

When you have your cholesterol checked and they give you your result as x mm/l, is this like a a1c were its your cholesterol over the last 3 months, or is it like the home BG monitoring, where it gives the read for the specific time you tested.

The reason I ask is to find out if fasting has any effect before a cholesterol test. If you ate a big fry up an hour before would cholesterol show as high.

This is my next area to attack, and am determined to do so without statins, thus would appreciate any information on cholesterol and the testing.

Thanks

:)

It's usually done fasting but for one of mine the GP wanted to see my non-fasting numbers also.

If you can, try to get a Full Lipid Panel and the actual numbers. Here we are only "allowed" TChol and I have to some some creative editing to get the test I (and my GP) really need

Numbers are spot results, trigs can go up markedly with diet and are most changeable.

Thanks for the info and the link, it makes more sense now.
