How about you try and get another test done and then we can have a look?
Have you changed your diet to get your HbA1c down from 78 to 44 or are you doing it with meds?
Would be interesting to see how your cholesterol has changed. Just remember to fast for this one and it should be more representative. As your doc has already expressed concern about your cholesterol levels then they should be ok with another test.. (or at least that's the argument I would use if any problems).
Hi Bulkbiker, I have asked for another cholesterol test and told they are only done once a year!
I started off on 80mg of Gliclazide a day and after two months my HbA1c was 60 but I was having hypos so reduced to 40mg a day and after 3 months (in total) HbA1c was 44. I have changed my diet, no more pasta, rice, chips, bread, cakes, biscuits or crisps. I do allow myself about 60gms of carbs a day. Tracy
With cholesterol like yours, I would INSIST on a new test, and make sure you fast for it, with no cheating!
As I said your doc has concerns so you should ask for another test.. I tend to just book myself in for blood tests then turn up and ask for a full lipid panel. Seems to be easier than arguing with the receptionist. I just say it is for my 6 monthly review then get the results online. But I'm rather naughty like that.Hi Bulkbiker, I have asked for another cholesterol test and told they are only done once a year!

But the most important question that you haven't answered is... did you eat before they took the blood test?

Ok so in that case I would definitely ask for another one. The results from 18 months ago are not very useful for now obviously.. also the one from earlier this year doesn't have the full lipid breakdown you need to draw any informed conclusions. No it was fasting from midnight.
Hi Hammer - I'd be more worried about the ALT (alanine aminotransferase). It's rather high. That, along with low HDL and high triglycerides, are indicators of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, aka NAFLD.
