As I sat down to my first Christmas dinner on insulin, there were a few family members who had not seen the bs sugar and insulin injection palaver. The conversation developed as different family members discussed how they would feel if they had to do it 5 times day. We eventually decided that everyone should test their own blood after dinner, (pre pud by the way). What was really surprising, ( apart from the pathetic fear of pricking a finger and my brother turning white and refusing) was that 3 out of the 8 sat at the table had results between 8 and 9. None were blood related or related to each other by blood. Is this normal? Having preempted the tests saying that any result below 7 was normal, the atmosphere, by the end, was pretty somber and I noticed quite a few of the puddings were left unfinished! I won't be recommending that at the dinner table again!
