Christmas......treats and ideas

We are hosting Christmas at ours this year so we have a reasonable amount of control over low carb options.

Any ideas for a low carb stuffing that can be made before the day?

Any chance of getting that trifle recipe? I trifle!!!
I'm interested in the custard recipie too please? Berries and sugar free jelly with cream I have often, haven't had custard since way back before diagnosis! !

I like the sound of those cherries in brandy but I stopped all alcohol after diagnosis, any suggestions?
I like the idea too Eddie! My drink of choice has always been vodka and it is carb free so have carried on have one now and then. My Christmas tradition has always been baileys, don't think I will risk the branded one this year due to the honey etc but going to dabble with making on with whisky, touch of coffee and cream....A few of us on here are ok with red wine, I've never been a lover of wine as such, do /did like asti or prosecco though, need to check carbs!

Kimbo, you should have a go at the DIY Baileys without sugar or make a still and make homemade vodka since your bound to have plenty spuds about for roasters on Xmas day lol. If anyone wants a tipple then enjoy but since moving onto insulin my BGs can be unstable and felt my hypo awareness was at risk when under the influence.

Oh I'm going too Eddie, sugar never actually entered my mind, even before diagnosis I never had sugar in drinks and only ever had diet mixers as hate the syrupy taste of normal!!
Of course, being on insulin alters things for you, I'm fortunate to be non - insulin!
Roast spuds??? Hmm.....I will only he having a couple of NEW ones which I'm going to try roasting as wouldn't dare old! Have only had a couple small new ones occasionally on a Sunday since diagnosis but lately don't even fancy them!

Anyway I'd love a Christmassy Glucose meter and some tinselled-up Insulin pens for Xmas lol. If any of my family or my Pharmacist see this then step-for-a-hint lol

Can I come to yours for Christmas

So many ideas...might need 2 Xmas meals, yummy lol

My Christmas will be a bit different this year. Normally my parents and sister come to me, but I'm going to their's this year. I've just ordered a load of stuff from M&S as usual (I'm not very domesticated and don't want to poison anyone!) including dessert. I'm not going to avoid anything but might minimise my intake of carby stuff. Usually I don't drink, but enjoy a glass or three of Champagne on the day. I'll be back on the wagon by Boxing Day.

Can I just pipe in with a silly question please?

How do black farmers saysages rate in comparison to the 'heck" 97% sausages.. They are on offer in Waitrose at £2 for 6 at the moment..

I love the "heck" ones but I see many people posting the black farmer sausages... Anybody bought both and can give me a clue which they prefer please?

I haven't tried any other type except Black Farmers, but why don't you try them and decide which you prefer? I absolutely love them.

I have only had the black farmers and absolutely love them!! Buy them every week, in the main £2.99 for 6 but Morrison's had them at £1.99 a few weeks ago on offer.

Whats the meat content in black farmers?

I watched a documentary about "heck" sausages and the family that make them and their struggles. I think this and the 97% meat and the good price sways me. It just the qty of posters saying black farmers.. Couldn't warrant £2.99 compared to Waitrose £2 though unless they are exceptionally better!!

I will try both, 97% meat at that price , wow. I do look for meat content now. I can just see that funny wee dog on That's Life giving you all a "sawwwsaajezzz" approval. Lol

Have asked my sister for he recipe and will post when she replies

The black farmers sausages are ace best I have ever tasted. Gluten free as well. Ordinary sausages are about zero carbs the apple and cider ones are I think about 28 carbs for the pkt or 7 carbs for 100 gms. Simplest way for apple sausages though is a little apple sauce and dunk sausage
Heres his website http://theblackfarmer.com/gluten_free_products all products listed with full details.

I've had both. If I'm honest the 97% Heck are just too meaty for me. Not sausagey enough. I tend to buy Booths westmorland rings. They are only about 80% meat but no fat comes out when you cook them so must be meat meat as opposed to fatty sweepings. Probably not as low carb as the others but they don't seem to spike me .
