I've read that cinnamon has many health benefits, including lowering blood sugar levels. We get 2 types of cinnamon- cassia and Ceylon. Cassia is the cheaper one we find in our supermarkets and Ceylon the more expensive and beneficial.
So I bought some Ceylon. Did a little experiment. Tested my BG and was 6.8 Had a tsp (as recommended) of cinnamon and an hour later my BG was 12.8 and 2 hours after that BG was 6.2
Anyone know what that's all about? Anyone keen to experiment and let me know what happens to their BGs. By the way I tried both types of cinnamon and both BG reactions were the same.
I'm thinking I need to inject for this tsp of cinnamon. But I shouldn't have to if it's supposedly meant to lower the blood sugar. Thanks guys x

I really like cinnamon as a flavouring, meats and vogurts and things... but I would have to say one teaspoon of the stuff would be a real challenge.. what was the oral sensation like, I would imagine fairly full on!

I had the cinnamon in a protein shake not straight up. So it was rather delicious delicious. Does cinnamon affect your BGs?

I dont think it was cinnamon that affected your sugar levels. It was most likely protein shake

I have the protein shake every morning with 2 units of insulin and maintain my BG as it was. That's why I question the cinnamon.

It is the Cheaper cinnamon that works , there is a component in it that isnt in the more expensive cinnamon , the problem about it though is that the very same component that lowers blood glucose is a bit poisonous if eaten in very High amounts regularly so a teaspoon every day is maybe too much but used once in a while probably okay

No idea why it affects your sugar levels. Ive heard it helps to lower sugar levels but I ve never really noticed it affects my bg in any way

Yes this! Cassia in excess is toxic to liver. Ceylon cinnamon is better for you in every way, but does little for glucose.

Cinnamon never helped my bs but caused severe reflux
