In your Diabetes Health Guide, it states that LDL cholesterol for diabetics should be 2.0 mmol/L or less, but I haven’t been able to find this specific target in any NHS literature. Could anyone point me to the official NHS guidance on this?
I’m asking because, without my knowledge, my LDL levels had been steadily increasing year after year, and my GP surgery has never flagged it—even when it exceeded 2.0. I only became aware of the issue after undergoing an angiogram, during which the hospital conducted a cholesterol test. The cardiologist advised my GP to arrange a follow-up test in three months, aiming to reduce my LDL to 1.8 mmol/L, but that timeframe has passed, and I haven’t heard anything from the surgery.
Am I entitled to request the test myself? I’d appreciate any insights on this!
I think the pdf is taken from the main website, rather than the forum. The Moderator group is limited to activity on the forum, and doesn't deal with anything on the DCUK website itself. I have to say I'm not at all sure about some of the information in it - for example, the information about HbA1cs in people without diabetes is plain wrong (see graphs).
