Hey! i jqve noticed my blood sugars bei ng higher than nor.al these last few days. then irealised why my little brother in law gave me and my hubby his cold i have been feeling rubbish. blocked nose heada he sore throat aching. i have been taking my normal background and doing corrections at meals

is this right or best to increase my background. i took one extra unit with lunch and started work at 6.6 then 2hours later it had dropped to2.9 so i am assuming best to go up on the backgrou d????

I've also caught the raging head cold/throat/chest thing, not nice is it?!

Would like to help, but don't know what you mean by "background"?? I'm newly diagnosed T2 (last week) and have just found all my cold/flu meds are stuffed full of sugar/glucose..

hope you feel better soon!

World H - I think the OP is an insulin user and referring to background insulin.

Cupcake - there's no one way to do it. Sounds like you've done exactly right - try with the QA first because it's easier to correct, and then consider the background. I've just been through exactly the same thing and I did find it very helpful to increase the background. I actually went up bit by bit until I was on 3 units more than normal. I'm still on 1 more than normal a week after my cold is supposedly over.
:(
The only problem with doing it this way is that background takes so long to get out of the system, so if you do get it a bit high you can be running on the side of hypo all day. But I would bet you will find that one unit will probably do the trick. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon

Hey guys,
I've been caught with this flu as well and I've found sugar free Strepsils (I think they're the ones for children and I found them in Boots), Halls also do sugar free lozenges and a sugar free cough medicine called Robitussin (or something like that).

I couldn't find any sugar free Lemsip/Beechams type things but maybe just taking some paracetamol will help?

Feel better soon!
