Hi
Have had a cold for the last 4 weeks, still hanging on! Basically the past week my numbers have been running much higher than normal
This morning woke up & bm was 4, had usual breakfast- half hour later - 14.8, gave insulin for this, about an hour later bm-21.8 & feeling hanging!! Changed my set (not that I should have needed to as only changed it last night! ) Been drinking plenty of water- about an hour after changing set-27.8 really annoyed by this now (day off today & was out picking up with my gundogs) so came home. It has taken about 4 hours to come down to 13?
I eat sensibly & don't abuse my diabetes but this is just stressing out! !
Any advice?

When I have a cold and my numbers rise, I use a temporary basal, increasing by 30% first of all to see what happens. Last year I ended up on a 200% basal for about 18 hours. It's trial and error till you find the correct level, then when you start recovering, you reduce basal till you're back at normal levels. Four weeks is a long time but there are some rotten viruses about. Just make sure you don't ignore important signs e.g. breathlessness and/or a cough could indicate a bacterial chest infection.

Why not run a temp basal?
Another suggestion is to set up another profile and do some basal testing as it could just be your basals need changing due to the clock changes and colder weather.

Hi
Forgot to say had been running tbr-150%
Yes didn't think about basal testing, worth a go. Just finding it frustrating as am always careful to eat right!
Will see how tomorrow morning goes- hopefully it'll be better
Thanks

Well numbers this am were ok,started off at 5, had usual breakfast, busyish morning, did bm 2 hours later- 12.9. Given 1.8 units & hoping it comes down ok

Hi
Numbers came down to 8, had normal lunch & cup of coffee
1 hour later bm was 12.3,gave 1 unit, another hour later 15.2 :( given 2 units & going to go for a walk with dogs to hopefully get them down, if not then I will change set

It sounds to me as if you need to check your basal then your carb ratio. There's a set pattern going on and it's not a set issue..
