Hi. I'm a Type 1 diabetic and am thankfully pretty well controlled. I've been type 1 for nearly 40 years and have always had issue with cold remedies such as lemsip and similar take-offs. Yes I know the actual benefit of such 'remedies' is debatable but the fact remains that many use them.

My main issue is with the volume of sugar in each 5g sachet. There is approx 2g or half a teaspoon of sucrose, caster sugar and lactose in each sachet. In my case I find a sachet usually raises my blood sugars which can be already raised as a result of a cold infection and the subsequent raised cortisol.

Is anyone aware of a sugar free alternative to the Lemsip type remedies please?

You have to way up the pros of the cold remedy raising your sugars relatively briefly against a cold / infection raising your sugars for a longer period , personally I make a lemon tea and take paracetamol , plus at this time of year ( coughs and sneezes season) I up my vitamin C intake seems to have worked for me for the last 20 odd years.

Thanks yes point taken re pros and cons and yes we up our vitamin c and echinacea intakes in the winter too. I'm just amazed at not finding a sugar free option yet.
