Hi alll, just wondering if any advice on coping with the cold weather. This is our first winter diabetes and ever since the snow arrived my daughters bms have been a bit odd. She will start will a normal pre meal have a normal type meal for her, we carb count, her ratio is 1-5 at breakfast and 1-10 the rest of the time. Her post meal been really high 17-18 but when checking an hour later will have come done a lot and be the next meal be normal

For example last night premal 5.2, post meal at 20.15 was 17-3 !! but prebed at 2130 7.2
this morming 4.2 premal 18-2 poat meal, reachked an hour later 9.2

Not sure what to do for the best she not usually to bad and dont want to fiddle to much as seems to drop very quickly after the high. Has anybody got any experince of this could it be realted to the cold ??

Hi,

I find that I usually need less insulin in the summer months than I do in the winter - possibly due to the heat, I don't know. It could also be that your daughter is coming out of the honeymoon period and is no longer producing any insulin on her own. I'd try increasing her doses slightly and see how you get on.
