Hello all,
I have recently been in a battle against my college in regards to attendance matters after several months of receiving final warnings etc...

I have had a rough few months with my health and explained this to them ... I have eventually won the battle against them.

I have however received the following email,(I have deleted names out)

"
.........,

To confirm the letters will stop for the time being due to the evidence you have provided regarding your ongoing health issues. I am happy to make this reasonable adjustment to the Colleges Student Attendance Policy.

Nevertheless we will not be breaching our Colleges register policy and will continue to report all sick days with an S which will effect your overall attendance %. The only time we will authorise your absence is when we have evidence of hospital, doctors etc. appointments.

In addition whilst we have made reasonable adjustments to support your need for a period of time off (including providing you with a range of assignment deadline extensions), we will be taking your overall 15/16 attendance % (in conjunction with your behaviour record) to support us in making our judgements regarding your 15/16 overall qualification achievement (in line with awarding organisation policy) and your progression next year.

Regards

..............

First of all ... Does anyone know of a rule where if your attendance percentage is not at a certain rate the exam board can alter your overall achievement?

And secondly I have had 4 Assignment extensions.

And finally if I am ill because of my condition then why should it still not be accepted as an authorised absence but yet if I was ill and admitted to hospital for the same thing I would be authorised : what's the difference of me being at home or hospital with the same illness even if I do have a note from my GP.

For example I had norovirus last year what required hospitalisation for rehydration and iv insulin.... However I got norovirus recently but it could be handled at home ; yet my attendance percentage goes down for my home illness but not hospital one even though I could provide evidence for both.

If I could have some opinions on this it would be great.

Diabetes by itself is not an excuse to frequently miss work or school. Sorry but that's the truth.

It's pretty hard to understand why you're missing that much school unless there's something you're not telling us. We all understand the struggles of daily management and that can occasionally result in a day or two of missed work/school (plus the doctors visits), but for the most part those should be infrequent.

The easy answer to me seems to be focusing on improving your management as it seems to be the focus of your issues.

Just my opinion.

I have read back my comment and realised I have not included the rest of what I intended to say; it's not just diabetes it's illness and other conditions also.

My attendance percentage is 88% ... The longest period of absence was a 2 week admission and then after just general illness days and appointments.
