Coming to terms !

Hi everyone,
Our 5 yr old son was diagnosed type 1 diabetic on thursday, we are being monitered at home and it was suggested we visit this website. We are now using the pen 4 times a day but the glargin is stinging alot making it then hard to continue with the nova rapid as he thinks it will all sting.
Bg is up & down and we had to deal with our first Hypo at 3.8 , we tried coke and then digestives but have now decided to try dextrose as he wasnt too keen on the coke at 2.30am! We would really appreciate any tips or ideas, he has gone to bed tonight witha bg of 19 ! his Glargin has been adjusted to 4 units so we will see when we test at 2am. Its a very confusing daunting time for us .
Also, as he does alot of sport we are interested in getting him a wristband just a rubber one, any ideas where we can order these, have looked on ebay & they seem to only do large and it has to be green !
Thanks x

Re: lantus (glargine) stinging, from a quick Google it seems this is due to the acidity (assuming it's warm enough when you inject eg you don't keep it in the fridge - that can make it hurt too). It might be possible to change to levemir, that does not sting, maybe ask the nurse about it?
