Common cold and diabetes

Hi, I caught a cold, it happens a bit more often since I'm diabetic... Last time 2 months ago.

I remember when being non diabetic whenever I had a cold I would be hungry all the time, so I would simply eat all the time... Usually craving for some toast sandwiches, or any kind of bread

Tonight I was laying in bed and clicking on the laptop and felt hungry, Libre was saying I'm at 4.5 which looked ok considering the hour and when I started feeling a bit shaky I did a blood strip test and it turned out I was at 2.5... I don't know why would that happen as I have eaten and taken insulin long ago, I was hungry at 21h also so I have roasted some seeds and nuts...

Libre is usually great, but sometimes it is just off the mark. I think the summer is a bad influence on it...

So I'm wondering, as my last 2 colds lasted a bit more than they should, maybe 10 days or so. Should I eat more and take more insulin? Why am I hungry all the time when ill a bit, does my body need more carbs now? Is there any common wisdom about treatment of common cold or any other similar (non-Covid old school ) virus...?

Maybe it is just that my immune system is too busy destroying my pancreas, or it has become weaker since I have been diagnosed... (9 months ago)

Obviously this is one half lament other half advice seeking post... Sorry.
I'll go to sleep now, see you in the morning. Thanks

Hope you feel better in the morning. Personally I just test more when I have a cold (cgms are wonderful things ) and if I get sick I am more likely to need more insulin. But I let my meter be my guide where that is concerned.

Your blood sugar could have been going down at the 4.5? I never find cgms that reliable once you're hypo....

I'm okay in the morning, just a bit clogged. Thanks. I put a new sensor on in the evening so the numbers were all over the place later it went way up, it should be OK in a few days...
