So its the middleof the great British summer and ive gone and got myself a cold :-(

ive been feeling terrible all day and comfort eating **** that as a diabetic i shouldnt eat yet ive just taken my glucose reading and its low! Ive not taken my lantus for 24 hours now and only a small amount of novo rapid this morning, recently ive been struggling to keep my levels under 10 now theyve been 3.9 and 4, two hours after dinner is this normal? Its time for my long lasting lantus injection but im wondering if its worth taking? I thought blood glucose rose when we got ill?

I personally would take the lantus. Have you thought about reducing it ? I know if I reduced mine by 2 units it could make a big difference. (I'm no longer on lantus but was for a long time).

Maybe have a small snack before sleeping too - a couple of biscuits - if you're worried your bs may go low.

You're right that blood sugar can go high when ill- My blood sugar goes up when I have a cold and I notice it even more now I have a pump.

Have you drunk any alcohol or done a lot of exercise? That sends my sugar repeatedly low the next day - very annoying!!

Yes bg does normally rise with illness Adskibullus but I see your still being in the Honeymoon Period may explain your unusual bg readings, can't advise on your insulin so your best bet is to ring your out of hours gp service or NHS Direct.

Thanks for the replies,

i took the lantus and everything was fine, i have taken up running recently and have been getting better control, i assumed that glucose levels would only be effected on the day of exercise but it seems that even on rest days my levels are better, perhaps this was the reason for lower readings than expected,

Thanks again

My blood sugar levels can be effected the day of exercise and sometimes the day after. I know that some people reduce their lantus on days they have exercised. If I did exercise regularly I needed to adjust my lantus.

If you google run sweet that may have some info to help or information to clarify the effect different exercise can have.
