My question is has anybody had similar occurrences in the past and can share any advice on how to beat the fatigue,

Sorry to hear you've been unwell recently
You say you've had a pain in the right side of your abdomen.... has this pain been diagnosed by GP/specialist?
It sounds like you've controlled your type 2 thru diet prior to being prescribed Metformin recently?
High BG levels will definitely make you tired, lethargic, generally unwell and even ratty.... I speak thru my own experience since diagnosed type 2 in March this year I had BG readings between 15 to 20 mmol/L for 1st 2 /3 months as I believe I was in denial!! But I have an excellent Diabetes Nurse at my local surgery, who helpfully put me on low carb diet (max 100g per day)
and my BG readings are usually in the 5's nowadays
Back in 2009 I had a dreadful pain underneath my right ribs.... turned out I had gallstones and an infected gallbladder, all removed in 2010, and I've been on a low to medium fat diet since diagnosed gallstones....
is it poss that you have gallstones?? have you had an ultra-sound scan?
any extra illness/stress will cause BG levels to rise beyond your normal levels
I hope you get some medical support other than metformin asap, good luck, take care

and has the pain in your abdomen been looked at?

The age old statins question again ... they do few people any good so do some in depth research into their side effects

Can you give us an example of what you typically eat during the day? This may help us to make some useful suggestions.

Pain on the right side of the abdomen could be a symptom of appendicitis. Worth checking with your doctor.

I agree that you really need to get this pain looked into. Having said that, pain, stress, and infections can cause you to have high BG. Just a thought.
