Type of diabetes
Type 2
Good evening. Im looking for a little advice.
Ive been type 2 for 2 years with hb1ac of around 44/45 or very under control.
In the last 4 weeks I’ve felt very unwell, tired, lethargic ratty and have pains in my right abdomen.
I don’t normally test but upon doing so i had a reading of 16.1
The doctors appointments have come and gone and
Im now on metformin 2 am and 2pm also with added
Another tablet to increase my insulin created by the pancreas but I’m still having readings of between 10-12 regularly even on fasting. My symptoms don’t seem to have improved.
Ive been told that if the results don’t come back down i may have to go on insulin.
My question is has anybody had similar occurrences in the past and can share any advice on how to beat the fatigue,
Kind regards Dave

Sorry to hear you've been unwell recently:sorry::(
You say you've had a pain in the right side of your abdomen.... has this pain been diagnosed by GP/specialist?
It sounds like you've controlled your type 2 thru diet prior to being prescribed Metformin recently?
High BG levels will definitely make you tired, lethargic, generally unwell and even ratty.... I speak thru my own experience since diagnosed type 2 in March this year :meh::grumpy: I had BG readings between 15 to 20 mmol/L for 1st 2 /3 months as I believe I was in denial!! But I have an excellent Diabetes Nurse at my local surgery, who helpfully put me on low carb diet (max 100g per day)
and my BG readings are usually in the 5's nowadays :cat:
Back in 2009 I had a dreadful pain underneath my right ribs.... turned out I had gallstones and an infected gallbladder, all removed in 2010, and I've been on a low to medium fat diet since diagnosed gallstones....
is it poss that you have gallstones??:doctor::nurse: have you had an ultra-sound scan?
any extra illness/stress will cause BG levels to rise beyond your normal levels:inpain::grumpy::sorry:
I hope you get some medical support other than metformin asap, good luck, take care :angelic::)

Hi butterfly1960 ive been on metformin since the beginning but was doing very well. Even on 4 metformin and 1 gliclazide a day my sugars still wont come down. Im already on a low carb diet and very rarely eat sugary food as i know my triggers, but even the lchf diet for a week i couldnt drop below 10 when testing

and has the pain in your abdomen been looked at?

Im going back to the doctors this week. They think my liver is enlarged due to taking statins but im not convinced. Gaul stones is a possibility and is something i will ask.

The age old statins question again ... they do few people any good so do some in depth research into their side effects

Hi @Dcuk,

Can you give us an example of what you typically eat during the day? This may help us to make some useful suggestions.

Pain on the right side of the abdomen could be a symptom of appendicitis. Worth checking with your doctor.

I agree that you really need to get this pain looked into. Having said that, pain, stress, and infections can cause you to have high BG. Just a thought.

Hi @Dcuk,

Or the pain could be due to a fatty liver. This is what I found on WebMD concerning fatty liver:

You might have some other symptoms, too. Your liver may get larger. You could have a pain in the center or right upper part of your belly.

But I agree with the others, best to get it checked out by your doc.
