Complications

Hi all.
Ok, so after 6 years of poor control, Hba1c's of 8
I started studying low carb/nutrition/normal blood glucose readings. Put everything in to practice. A1c down to 7.5 six months ago, went back to clinic recently & am now down to 5.6, very pleased.
No complications as of yet except a very small change to retinal screening last year (due another at the end of Oct)

However my question is: will the complications that haven't showed yet all of a sudden catch up with me even though things are going a lot better, or does it not work that way? Like, if they havent yet showed, they may not? I worry they are their, but are hidden if you like.

Thank you!

Sorry I dont think therw is a definative answer. It is true that some diabetic complecations in certain circumstances can not only be halted in progress but also regress somewhat but I think it may also be ture that once started down the path of some complecations it would be very hard to compleatly stall the onsett but I would also imagin it would progress at a far slower pace than with high bgs and there for give medical therapy a greater chance.

Retinopathy is well known for getting worse when control improves -this can persist for 2-3 years. There are several members of this forum myself included who found their retinopathy got significantly worse following a period of good control after having poor control in the past. It's known as 'early worsening'. Hope this will not be the case for you though.
